Eirini's story...

“I attended my first yoga class in 2004 after I had developed intense lower back pain. I reached a point where I could barely walk. As a scientist by training, I spent many hours studying without understanding the importance of using my body. At the time, I was struggling to understand the connection between mind, body and soul. As I was attending more and more yoga classes, I started feeling better, not just physically but also mentally. I had a feeling of lightness and calmness after every single Astanga or Vinyasa class. I carried on practicing throughout my two pregnancies and I was feeling the connection with my beautiful babies. Finally, I started feeling centered to my inner self...

Respecting the planet is vital. Our children are going to live on this planet and WE ALL need to take care of it. I became vegetarian  to reduce my carbon footprint and I started practicing yoga every single day. Yoga became part of my everyday life, my ritual, my sacred space to reconnect with my inner self. I now feel more conscious, more mindful and more present. I decided to train as a Yoga instructor as I felt the urge to share this knowledge. I started feeling that I have the obligation to reduce waste, to reuse materials and to recycle.

This is how I came up with the idea of PeaceYogaEco. I wanted to practice with yoga props and clothes that are not harmful to our planet. I started my little project on finding the most eco-friendly materials for yoga mats, and I found that natural rubber and cork are biodegradable and recyclable. At the same time, I was fascinated by the sustainability movement in fashion. The use of sustainable fabrics, made from recycled materials and waste products, opened a new chapter for me. My research is ongoing and work in progress. I feel that using earth friendly materials for clothes, is a necessity.

We are living at a time where being sustainable and conscious is the least we can do for our planet. That’s the least I can do. I want to practice what I am preaching. For the sake of our children...for the sake of our Earth...
